One of those issues being, that each vehicle must display a two-letter country code at the rear of the vehicle. Unfortunately, a naked motorcycle doesn&#8217;t have any suitable surfaces for that. It literally dragged the bike down. I exchanged that for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unitgarage.de\/special_parts\/suspensionen_und_kuhlung\/schwarzer-knopf-vorspannung-stossdampfer-original-bmw-r12-ninet-r12-r12-g\/s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CNC milled aluminum one<\/a> from Unit Garage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vielzutun.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Preload.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/vielzutun.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Preload.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17947\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vielzutun.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Preload.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/vielzutun.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Preload-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vielzutun.ch\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Preload-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 1362px) 62vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Much better, in my opinion \ud83d\udc4d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"HeadCovers\"><strong>Cylinder Head Covers &#171;Shadow&#187;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stock R12 nineT also came with light grey cylinder head covers with a smooth surface. A little too smooth, and a little too &#171;light grey&#187; for my taste. I swapped them out for original, but alternative BMW ones in the &#171;Shadow&#187; variety, sometimes with the byname &#171;black&#187; set in parantheses. Initially I was rather disappointed when they arrived at my house. Because they are not black but rather a darker shade of grey only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This disappointment vanished when my trusted longtime style advisor Ursula pointed out to me, that both color and surface finish (a little like sand-blasted roughness) of the &#171;Shadow&#187; covers match <strong>perfectly<\/strong> that of the rear wheel drive, the swingarm, the gearbox and the front engine cover. That settled it for me. (Don&#8217;t expect any enhanced cooling from those, though &#8211; they are merely eye-candy). See right image above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"Grip\"><strong>Passenger grip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a first short ride with Ursula on the pillion seat she complained about the lack of a grip to hold on to. That stock leather(?) strip across the seat is a joke indeed. So ordered a set of cheap, yet quite heavy <a href=\"https:\/\/de.aliexpress.com\/item\/1005008987276899.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">stainless ones<\/a> from Aliexpress.com. The weight for one side is 307 gramms, including the M12x65 stainless allen bolt, compared to 11 gramms each for the stock plastic plug. Those bar end weights are supposed to serve a twofold purpose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>protect the bar ends from scratches or light impacts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lower the resonant frequency of the bar ends when excited by engine vibrations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latter effect is supposed to lessen the chance of developping &#171;tingly&#187; the paddock stand. Reason being, that the garage&#8217;s floor has a slope towards a drain in its center, which made the bike lean right, away from the side stand on its left side (as seen from the rear). Then peel off a rubber plug which covers the seat retaining screw from underneath the seat and unscrew the single seat retaining screw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"Temperature\"><strong>Work in progress: dedicated oil temperature gauge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is currently work in progress, although I&#8217;ve advanced from the purely planning phase into the implementation phase already.
